KINGWOOD

kingwod.png

Kingwood is a collection of twenty four houses built by Ripon and Pateley Bridge Rural Council in 1949 at a cost of £30,961. An extra £3,695 was allocated for the provision of roads and sewers and £462 for a proposed water main.

The first tenants moved in at the beginning of 1950.

After the police house was closed at Beechwood Terrace, it was moved t number 24 Kingwood and remained there until the early 1970’s

The estate was so named as it was built adjacent to Kingwood Lane.

For over forty years, I have wondered if there ever was a King Wood in the area. After hours of research and scouring Victorian maps , I finally found it on a map from around 1850. It was on Kingwood Lane on the left after the caravan park. (See maps below).
