In October 1937, Joseph and Alice celebrated their 50th. Wedding Anniversary at home, 4 Beechwood Terrace Markington. By now  they had nine sons and daughters and fourteen grandchildren.

On the 18th. December Joseph Ross died. After his death two of his sons and one of his daughters continued the tenancy. (Robert, Arthur and Annie).

By the 1940's the mill races, complete with sluice gates, and the large water wheel at High Mill were still intact, though none of them had been in use for many years.

Throughout the war years they carried on milling, then on the 7th. December 1966 Arthur died suddenly on his way home from the mill. Robert ran the mill until the end of December 1966 when it closed. The sale of equipment took place on the 11th March 1967 marking the end of corn milling in Markington.

The water wheel, however can be seen,     still in working order, at the High Corn Mill   in Skipton. (https://highcornmill.co.uk/innovation-zone/)
